Transparency & Accountability

Good stewardship is public.

We hold ourselves to the governance standards of a much larger organization. Here are the facts of who we are, how we’re organized, and the policies that keep us accountable to the families and donors who trust us.

Governance policies

The guardrails behind the work.

Code of Ethics & Ethical Responsibility

Everyone who represents IDC — board, staff, and volunteers — is expected to act with honesty, integrity, and in the best interest of the organization and the people we serve. We comply with all applicable laws, use the organization’s resources responsibly, avoid conflicts of interest, protect confidential information, and treat colleagues and community members with respect. Anyone who believes these standards have been violated is encouraged to report it, and good-faith reports are protected from retaliation.

Conflict of Interest

Directors, officers, and committee members with governing powers must disclose any financial interest in a proposed transaction. Interested persons leave the room for the discussion and vote, and the board documents its review — so decisions are made in the organization’s interest, not a private one.

Document Retention & Destruction

IDC retains corporate, financial, tax, employment, and grant records for the periods required by law and by our funders, and disposes of records securely once those periods end. When litigation or an investigation is anticipated, the routine destruction of relevant records is suspended until the matter is resolved.

Nondiscrimination

IDC serves and employs people without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, religion, or any other protected status. The required federal notice appears below.

Nonpartisanship

IDC is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) charitable organization and does not support or oppose candidates for public office.

U.S. Treasury nondiscrimination notice. In accordance with federal laws and U.S. Department of the Treasury policy, this organization is prohibited from discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability.
