Dementia & Driving – Driving can be risky for individuals with dementia, as the condition affects memory, judgment, and behavior. As dementia progresses, it can impair driving skills, making it unsafe. Driving laws for those with dementia vary by state. Some states require reporting the diagnosis, which may lead to license revocation. In West Virginia, there are no specific laws against driving with dementia, but concerns can be reported to the DMV for investigation. If a loved one has dementia, monitor their driving and recognize when it’s no longer safe. Support them through this transition for their safety and others on the road.
